Getting Here

Rail
Daytime direct services from London on the east coast mainline stop at Aviemore, as does the overnight sleeper from London Euston on the west coast mainline. Depart from London Euston in the evening, dine on board, have a good night’s sleep, to awake next morning with a view of the Highlands as your backdrop for breakfast. Visit the Scotrail website for full details. There are also many trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh, connecting with services from further south.

Road
Grantown-on-Spey is easy to get to by road and is 12 miles from the mainline railway station at Aviemore. The nearest airport is at Inverness, 40 miles way and takes approximately 50 minutes by car. The recently upgraded A9 trunk road has vastly improved journey times. Please use the following links for route planning by road:

Bus

Air
Inverness Airport is now served by six airlines, and by October 2006, it will be 7 . .they are -

  • Easyjet (London Gatwick, Luton, Belfast and Bristol)
  • British Airways (London Gatwick, Edinburgh, Kirkwall, Stornoway and Sumburgh)
  • bmi (London Heathrow)
  • Eastern Airways (Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds/Bradford and Manchester)
  • Aer Arann (Dublin)
  • Highland Airways (Stornoway and Benbecula)
  • From October 2006 Ryan Air will fly from Liverpool

Grantown on Spey is approx. 45 mins by car from Inverness Airport on A9. Car hire can be arranged for collection at the airport. Highlands and Islands Airport Limited (HIAL) provides information on all flights from and to Inverness (see link below). Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are two and a half hours away by car, and from Prestwick, a three-hour journey will see you in Strathspey.
