Accessing the outdoors

Local Countryside Ranger

Hello there! My name is Saranne Bish and I'm your local Countryside Ranger based above the Service Point in the Town house in Grantown-on-Spey. I'm directly employed by the Highland Council and the post is additionally part-funded by Cairngorm National Park Authority.

Our duties are many and varied! We provide environmental education for all -- from pre-schoolers to those in High School to guided walks and talks for the general public to special events to mark an occasion or speciality. Along these lines we also interpret the natural world to provide a greater understanding and respect for the countryside through environmental activities and games to information panels and leaflets. We provide advice on a range of subjects but most prominently at the moment the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and the recent Access legislation. We also get involved with the provision of access through leaflets and perhaps signage such as waymarking and fingerposting. And in addition to all this we record the wildlife that we encounter on our daily travels, whether it is a rarity or something more common.

So, if I can be of use please do get in touch. Perhaps you are involved with a group that would like to get more 'hands-on' in the countryside, whether you wish to learn more or something specific or perhaps just get your hands dirty!? Or whether you need help with funding applications for a project in biodiversity, access, or whatever!
